Alexis Ruiz
Alexistyle, the Latin dancer, choreographer, instructor, musician and percussionist is born and raised in La Antigua Guatemala,coming from a family of dancers, musicians and artists. He started his career at the age of 5 and started teaching Latin dances at age of 13. His interest and passion for dance, music and art in general was born at his parents Dance School "Ritmo Latino". This was followed up at his aunt's Art Gallery " Los Nazarenos" where he attended his first dance, music, theatre and painting lessons.He worked alongside
"Ensamble Latino", one of the best Latin bands in Guatemala, choreographing and dancing, learning the fundamentals of Latin percussion and music in general.
The artist decided to tour around the world to study more dance and music styles: Afro-Cuban, African dance, Tap, Flamenco, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo-Salsa, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, House, Latin Percussion, African
Percussion and music in general, In the year 2000 he moved to Asia establishing himself in Japan where
he started his dance project named Alexistyle. This became a pioneering experience. He launched himself as a "solo" Latin dancer.
He had significant success with his teaching, choreographing and performing. He owned one of the largest and most successful dance schools in the country with over 1000 students around Asia. He also started his own Latin-Jazz sextet named "Foribale" playing Alexis' original compositions, and participating in many Jazz festivals, Latin dance conventions and clubs in general.
In 2005 he received an award and recognition for his contribution to promote Latin dance and music, by the top Latin dance promoter in the world Mr. Albert Torres in the Annual West Coast Salsa Congress. In 2006 He received another diploma for his participation in "Folcuba" in La Habana, Cuba, the same year he was awarded in Tokyo, Japan for his contribution of promoting Latin dances and for his extended career in the country.
Alexistyle is a multi-talented, passionate and focused individual. He is the creator of many different original ideas and concepts where his creative unique style is combined with his sense of musicality. He presents this in many international events and at salsa congresses. He has also appeared on radio interviews, TV programs, in magazines and newspapers that has gained him recognition. In Europe he is getting increasingly popular for his inspiring, energetic and full of joy workshops combined with easy to understand pedagogic skills and friendly atmosphere.
After 10 years of travelling, visiting 32 countries in 4 continents, teaching and performing, he has finally moved to Oslo (Norway) where he is working in the Show-Biz teaching and performing. He is also running his own musical and dance project in the company (Step by Step AS) also worked for (Salsa Kompaniet) one of the largest salsa dance schools in Norway and (Baardar Danseinstitutt).
